#1 How I Feel About Reading And Writing

Ever since I was a little girl I have loved to read and write. You could always find me at the library getting new books to read. I would attempt to write my own stories as well, dreaming of being a writer. This admiration for reading and writing has continued throughout my life. Today, I have continued my love of writing by keeping a daily journal, containing my thoughts and viewpoints of situations and expressing my interests. I have continued by love for reading as well. I always have a book to read for enjoyment. It is a way to escape and entertain myself in an imaginary world. However, throughout my life, my viewpoints of reading and writing have changed. Yes, I do love to read and write, but only when it is on my own time. Throughout High School teachers slowly turned reading and writing into a burden instead of something to enjoy. They make students read many books that they can barely understand and never truly enjoy to read. They make students write papers on topics they have no interest about, turning the assignment into a hassle. The statement that I love to read and write still stands; however, I prefer to do it on my own time for my own reasons than to do it for an assignment on a subject I have no interest in.
While being in High School I was taught well in the subject of writing. I have had many effective teachers that have taught me how to better my writing. They have taught me the 'do's and don'ts' of writing and which helped improved my writing throughout the years. However, with having many different teachers, I have learned that there are different styles and opinions about the correct way to write. Although I have had an effective learning history with writing, I still have concepts to learn. While reading chapter 1 in Patterns for a Purpose, I have come to the realization that there are many things about writing that I have not been taught yet. Although I may not know everything about writing at this time, I hope to further my knowledge of writing while keeping my deep admiration for reading and writing.
